About Sakura Integrative Veterinary Services

At Sakura Integrative Veterinary Services, we offer personalized, integrative care that supports your pet’s body, mind, and spirit. Based in Placentia, CA, we provide mobile and telehealth services focused on healing through balance—using acupuncture, herbal therapy, food therapy, and other natural modalities tailored to your pet’s unique needs.

Our practice is founded on the belief that veterinary care should be as calming and respectful as it is effective. With every visit, Dr. Miwa Kanbe—a certified veterinary acupuncturist—brings not only advanced training but deep empathy, thoughtful listening, and a gentle, collaborative approach.

In addition to offering in-home care for pets, Dr. Kanbe is also available as a relief veterinarian for local clinics and hospitals. She provides both general and integrative care, bringing flexibility, experience, and a patient-centered mindset to every shift.

Whether your pet is facing a chronic condition, recovering from surgery, or simply aging gracefully, we’ll work together to create a customized care plan that blends the best of holistic and conventional medicine—on your terms, in your space.

A Practice Designed for Peace and Healing

Your home becomes a place of comfort and healing when veterinary care comes to you. As a mobile service, Sakura eliminates the stress of clinic visits, helping your pet feel relaxed, safe, and receptive to care. Every treatment is designed to honor your pet’s individuality and your family’s lifestyle, with plenty of time for connection, questions, and support.

Dr. Miwa Kanbe, DVM, CVA

Integrative Veterinarian | Certified in Veterinary Acupuncture | TCVM Practitioner

Hi, I’m Dr. Miwa Kanbe — a veterinarian with a deep passion for integrative medicine and a commitment to supporting the health and well-being of every pet I treat.

I earned my Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from Oklahoma State University in 2003 and began my career at a busy 24-hour emergency hospital. From 2005 to 2018, I continued to grow my clinical experience in a conventional general practice, working closely with pets and their families through every stage of life.

My interest in Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM) has always been strong, and in 2017, I became certified in veterinary acupuncture through Chi University. I’ve also completed advanced training in TCVM Food Therapy, allowing me to offer a wider range of holistic treatment options.

From 2019 to 2024, I focused exclusively on practicing holistic and integrative medicine, combining natural therapies with conventional care to help pets thrive.

I use acupuncture, Chinese herbal therapy, nutraceuticals, and other holistic modalities in addition to traditional Western Medicine to treat a variety of conditions, including:

  • Arthritis and mobility issues
  • Spinal disease
  • Anxiety and seizures
  • Gastrointestinal problems
  • Liver and kidney disease
  • Heart disease
  • Skin and ear disease

I believe in treating the whole patient — physically and emotionally — and I strive to build strong, supportive relationships with pet owners. I will also provide a report to your primary veterinarian so that everyone stays informed. You can think of me as a part of your veterinary team. My goal is to ensure you feel fully informed, comfortable, and confident throughout your pet’s healing journey.

I speak both English and Japanese, so I’m happy to communicate in the language that makes you feel most at ease.

I’m also continuing my TCVM journey, with plans to pursue further studies in Chinese Herbal Therapy and Tui-na, a form of therapeutic medical massage. I’m excited to keep expanding the tools I can offer to support your pet’s health naturally and compassionately.

Outside of work, I enjoy recharging with trips to Disneyland, traveling, and spending time with my sweet greyhound mix, Goma and cockatiel, Kokomo. These moments help me stay centered and bring renewed energy and compassion to every patient I care for.
